We had discussed many possibilities for our Christmas break- originally planning on Italy, and then playing with the idea of Paris, next we considered staying in the UK, but, because of my plethora of free time and obsession with lastminute.com, we ended up booking a very last-minute and ridiculously cheap trip to Spain instead.
We flew into Alicante and took a 45 minute bus ride to our final destination, Benidorm which is on the south-eastern coast of Spain. I have to say, this is the least prepared for a vacation i've ever been. We knew nothing about Benidorm, had no idea what to expect, and our spanish is limited to what we've learned from TacoBell commercials, that said, we had a great time! While it wasn't warm enough to go swimming in the Med (it was about 65 degrees out), we did get to hang out on the beach in our bathing suits. Other than that, we wandered around the town a lot, ate a lot, hung out in our posh 4 star hotel, and bobby managed to get the flu, all in 6 days! Here are some pictures that will do a better job describing our vacation than I can.
Here's me in a restaurant where we ordered a plate of Paella, not knowing exactly what it was. Can you see the fear in my eyes at the site of all of that very much alive-looking seafood? Good thing bobby was there to teach me how to de-shell crayfish, and to eat all the crayfish after I discovered I hate it.
Here's bobby with some palm trees. I think this was the day he had a ridiculously high fever. What a sport.
Our hotel, the tallest building in Spain.
Our table at the Christmas banquet where we had to carry on awkward conversations with 8 elderly British couples. You know the ones where you tell them you're American and they respond with "Oh really? I went to Mexico once."
Me in front of the big Santa.
Us wearing our Christmas Crowns which come out of the Christmas Crackers, a very British holiday tradition.

This post reminds me of that Counting Crows' song, "Holiday in Spain," even though the rest of the lyrics have nothing to do with your trip... only the title line in the chorus. Oh well. I'm so glad you blog so I can live vicariously through your world travels while being stuck in snowy, icy, Mormon-infested Utah.
